About FSAS
Fire Service Administrative Solutions was built from firsthand experience with the administrative challenges fire departments deal with every day. FSAS combines real fire service experience, leadership, and education with practical administrative support built specifically for the fire service.
Built From Inside the Fire Service
FSAS wasn't created by someone looking at the fire service from the outside. It was built by someone who has spent his entire adult career in it, who cares deeply about the job, and who understands that what happens behind the scenes matters just as much as what happens on the apparatus floor.
Founder Tyler Tesch, B.S., is a United States Marine Corps veteran who began his fire service career in Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF). His career has since taken him through federal, municipal, combination, and volunteer fire service environments, providing firsthand experience with different department structures, operational demands, leadership challenges, and administrative systems.
Today, Tyler continues to serve as a Fire Lieutenant and EMT in the federal fire service, bringing company-level leadership and operational experience to the work behind FSAS. He also serves as President of the Tri-Star Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society (FOOLS), where he remains actively involved in promoting training, firemanship, professional development, and fellowship within the East Tennessee fire service.
Tyler holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire Science and has built his career around continually learning the job, developing firefighters, improving department operations, and understanding the standards, policies, and systems that support an effective fire department. His experience includes SOPs and SOGs, training documentation, administrative forms, records, policy development, department systems, and the countless pieces of documentation that keep an organization functioning behind the scenes.
More importantly, the fire service isn't simply the industry FSAS serves. It's the profession Tyler has dedicated his career to. An SOP isn't just another document sitting in a binder. A training record isn't just another form. The administrative systems behind a department directly support its firefighters, officers, leadership, accountability, training, and operations.
That's the perspective behind FSAS. We don't force departments into generic templates or pretend there is one right way to run every organization. We listen to how your department operates, understand what you're trying to accomplish, and provide the administrative support needed to turn that into professional, organized, practical documentation that actually works for your department.
Why FSAS Exists
The idea behind FSAS came from seeing the same problem repeatedly throughout my fire service career: important administrative work that everyone knows needs attention, but nobody seems to have enough time to tackle.
I've inherited outdated SOPs and SOGs, worked with forms that had been copied and modified for years, searched through poorly organized files, and seen multiple versions of the same document floating around a department. I've also watched good Chiefs and officers recognize these problems but have to push them down the priority list because staffing, training, emergency response, budgets, personnel issues, and the everyday demands of running a fire department come first.
I found that I genuinely enjoyed fixing those problems. Taking something disorganized or outdated and turning it into a professional document or system that people could actually use became work I took pride in. The more I did it, the more I realized this wasn't a problem unique to one department.
That's why I started Fire Service Administrative Solutions.
FSAS gives departments another resource to get that work off the back burner without hiring additional administrative staff or pulling their own personnel away from other responsibilities. Whether it's one form that needs cleaned up or an administrative project that has been sitting untouched for years, the goal is the same: help departments finally get it done and get it done right.
A Commitment to Professionalism
My time in the United States Marine Corps helped shape the standards I have carried with me throughout my fire service career and into FSAS. Integrity, accountability, attention to detail, and taking pride in your work aren't marketing terms to me. They're expectations I believe should be reflected in the work you put your name on.
Fire department documentation deserves that same level of professionalism. Policies should be clear and consistent. Forms should look like they belong to the same organization. Records should be organized. Projects should be completed thoroughly, and departments should receive exactly what was agreed upon.
FSAS approaches every project with that mindset. If a department trusts me with its policies, records, forms, or administrative systems, I take that responsibility seriously. That means communicating clearly, respecting the department's operational knowledge, being upfront about project scope and pricing, and delivering work I am comfortable putting the FSAS name behind.
Integrity also means knowing our role. FSAS isn't here to tell Chiefs how to run their departments or pretend we know their organization better than they do. Your department provides the operational knowledge and direction. FSAS brings the administrative support, organization, research, writing, and attention to detail needed to turn that direction into professional finished work.
The standard is simple: do what we say we're going to do, take ownership of the work, and deliver something both FSAS and your department can be proud to put their name on.
Built on Experience. Driven by the Fire Service.
FSAS was created with a simple purpose: provide fire departments with professional administrative support from someone who understands the job, respects the people doing it, and takes pride in producing work departments can confidently stand behind.
Professional work. Clear communication. Fire service perspective.
